Mad about tea the mad hatter at a tea party

While the Irish capacity to drink may be legendary, it might surprise you that the most quaffed beverage on The Emerald Isle is non-alchoholic. That's right: your average Irish person drinks about 4.1 cups of tea every day. Statistically, that's the highest per capita consumption of tea in the world.

Éireann go Brách, folks.

Irish tea is black (always) and is usually served with a splash of milk. The blend of tea preferred in Ireland is a strong one (requiring a shorter steeping time than, say, common English blends). The Irish are also less fond of their tea service than their anglo counterparts; tea is usually made by the cup, not the pot. Informality is most often the rule, though the host prepares it for the guest, asking how the person likes their tea before emerging with the prepared beverages, usually in mismatched ceramic mugs. Come on the town!!
