This is a strictly musical open mic, tuesday night poets and spoken word artists should head to the Green Tortoise Hostel on Broadway or over to Berkeley to The Starry Plough. A featured performer plays a half-hour set at the end of the night. The sign-up list is at the far end of the bar and phone-in reservations are not accepted. Rockin' Java is 2 doors down from Amoeba Records on Haight and its open mic was hosted for 3 years by the esteemed Joe Rizzo until Oct 2005. As far as I know, the open mic is still going on, though you might want to call to be sure.
