The Utah is a bit of a legend in the bay area. It was closed recently for a couple of months, but due to a clamour of local complaints, it has re-opened. Spoken-word is welcome here, and they'll even letcha play their piano if you ask nicely. One of the great things about this open mic is how fast it goes - with sometimes one song per person it zips along. There is always a "feature," as they call it - one pre-ordained performer each monday who plays a 30 minute set at 9pm. Not to worry, the longer set is always excellent and makes for a nice break. Sit upstairs if you can, it'll put you close to the performer and a better distance from the sometimes overpowering speakers.

Signup: 7:30 walk-in, put your name in the jar. Names are pulled before performance and put on a list - performers go in the same order as names pulled.
Length: 8pm 'till last call

Terms: One or two songs, depending on the number of perfomers.
Sound: Not bad - a little muffled, but you'll hear everything. It's a difficult room to mix in.
